Physical chemistry is the study of how matter behaves on a molecular and atomic level and how chemical reactions occur. Physical chemistry blends the principles of physics and chemistry to study the physical characteristics, or properties, of molecules. Chemical thermodynamics deals with the relationship between heat and other forms of chemical energy, kinetics with chemical reaction rates. Sub disciplines of physical chemistry include electrochemistry, photochemistry, surface chemistry, and catalysis.
