Petrochemicals are derived from various chemical compounds, mainly from hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons are derived from crude oil and natural gas. Petrochemical industry plays a vital role in economic growth and development of manufacturing sector. The value addition in the petrochemicals industry is higher than most of the other industry sectors. The various components of petroleum used as raw materials in the production of other chemicals are known as feedstocks. Petrochemical feedstocks can be classified into three general groups: olefins, aromatics, and a third group that includes synthesis gas and inorganics.
