Copolymer



A copolymer is a polymer derived from more than one species of monomer. The polymerization of monomers into copolymers is called copolymerization. Copolymers obtained by copolymerization of two monomer species are sometimes called bipolymers.

Elastomer Conductive Polymers

Organic Aerogels



Aerogels are a unique class of ultrafine cell size, low-density foams. These materials have continuous porosity and a microstructure composed of interconnected colloidal-like particles or chains with characteristic diameters of 100 Å. Traditional aerogels are inorganic, made via the hydrolysis and condensation of metal alkoxides

Xerogel




A Xerogel is obtained when the liquid phase of a gel is removed by evaporation. It may retain its original shape, but often cracks due to the extreme shrinkage that is experienced while being dried. The gel is usually an alcogel, that is, an alcohol-based gel.

Polydienes

Polydienes constitute an extremely important group of polymers. This group comprises natural rubber and its derivatives together with the products of polymerization and copolymerization of conjugated dienes. These various materials make up the contents of this chapter. The importance of the polydienes lies in the fact that they encompass the bulk of the commercial elastomers currently in use.
